SSAFA Forces Help in Buckinghamshire were one of five Charities taking part in a sponsored cycle ride from the Rock of Giraltar to Stowe School near Buckingham, a distance of about 1,500 miles. It was not a relay and each of the nine riders had to cycle the whole way, which was around 120 miles a day, often over fairly mountainous countryside, such as crossing the Pyrenees, and in temperatures of up to 40 degrees.
The two riders representing SSAFA were both from 7 Rifles; they were Capt Bill Holland, who was also riding for The Rifles Benevolent Fund, and Csgt Barry Street. They flew out to Gibraltar on 25 June and wre given a great send off. The Masons in Gibraltar presented them with a cheque for £1,500 at the welcome dinner.
Donations are still coming in but it looks as though we have raised £8,000 for SSAFA and £4,000 for The Rifles. A magnificent achievement and we are most grateful to our two riders for all their efforts.
