Swimming Success for SSAFA

Nicki Morgan recruited a huge team of 110 people to take part in a global swimathon in memory of her husband Julian (pictured).

The team pledged to swim more than 300 miles between them – the equivalent of five times around the Isle of Wight, where Nicki took Julian for his 40th birthday, their last trip together. Julian, who served in the RAF for 12 years, died last October following a three-year fight with cancer.

All the swimming took place between June 21st and July 4th, with Nicki, from Hampshire, swimming no less than 15 miles herself. She has also been supported by England rugby star Tom Rees and hopes the event will raise £4,500 each for SSAFA Forces Help and Macmillan Cancer Support.

She said: “Julian was very proud to serve in the RAF and although he left the RAF in 2000, the financial support SSAFA have shown me has been amazing and overwhelming. It just goes to show how fantastic this charity is to people, and their families, who have served, and are currently serving in the Armed Forces.”
